Infertility Symptoms – Definitions

When a couple cannot have a baby after 12 months of regular and unprotected intercourse, they can be classified infertile. Infertility is the inability to have a baby.

Couples respond in different ways after being told they are infertile. Extreme reactions often come from couples who are childless.

Couple who are infertile and who’ve never had a baby are classified under primary infertility.

On the other hand, secondary infertility describes the condition wherein couples who have successfully become pregnant once are having difficulties in getting pregnant again.

The Male Factor

Several emotional and physical factors can cause infertility.

Infertility cases in men, like low sperm count, retrograde ejaculation, scarring from sexually transmitted diseases, hormone deficiency, and impotence, make up approximately 30-40% of cases.

Sperm count may be negatively influenced by marijuana abuse or use of prescription drugs, like cimetidine, spironolactone, and nitrofurantoin.

Femaleness

Ovulation dysfunction, fallopian tube abnormality, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, scarring from STDs, hormonal imbalances, pelvic infection, poor nutrition, and tumors are just some of these “female factors.” These make up between 40 and 50 % of infertility problems among couples.

Factors from both male and female, including other unknown causes, make up 10 to 30% of infertility cases.

It has been found that a small number, just 10 to 20%, of couples fail to conceive after trying for a year. It is essential for couples to keep trying to conceive for a year at the very least.

Factors Related To Age

Couples who are healthy, are below 30 years old, and have intercourse frequently have just a 25 to 30 per cent chance a month of conceiving. A woman’s fertility peak is during her 20s. Pregnancy for women more than 35 years old is 10% less, even lower for those over 40.

Others Factors Not Related To Age

Age-related factors are not the only causes of infertility. Infertility may also be increased due to the following:

* Having had sex with more than one partner
* Sexually transmitted diseases
* History of pelvic inflammatory disease
* History of epididymitis or orchitis in men
* Mumps among men
* Vein engorgement in the scrotum
* Health history citing DES exposure (both sexes)
* Eating disorders among women
* Anovulation and irregular menstruation
* Endometriosis
* Problems with the uterus or the cervix
* Long-term disease like diabetes

Buying Last Minute Items Before Baby Arrives

Posted by Shawn | Uncategorized | Monday 4 January 2010 5:06 pm

If you are a new parent, or at the very least someone you know is, you could be asking what are some things that are must haves before the baby actually arrives. The items that are listed below are not among the most obvious, and they all have merit towards making your life as a parent a little bit easier. So here goes.

You see, I cannot assume what you consider to be the most important in terms of purchases for the new baby, and therefore I have opted to provide you with some more obscure choices. The reason that these are best purchased before the baby arrives, is that it will be easier to now rather than with a newborn.

A breast pump is the first on this list of things that you might not have considered. You see, you cannot dispute the research to suggest that breast milk is the best nourishment for a newborn. However, breastfeeding in general is not always as easy as it might appear to some. That is when having one of these pumps would come in handy to fill bottles for later use. You might opt for a single breast pump, but you can cut the time in half and make twice the bottles with a double electric breast pump.

You might also want to consider purchasing a mobile for the crib. A lot of cribs come with one of these, but they are interchangeable. Giving your child a few options is never a bad call. You see, this is meant to entertain them as they fall asleep on their own in the crib. This is why it might benefit you to keep the process intriguing for them.

Baby bath tubs are also very important in the stages of your infant’s growth. This makes bath time a lot more fun, and more importantly, a lot safer. Safety is a huge concern for many parents. Much like anyone else, babies require baths often to keep them healthy.

You are likely to already have these on your list, but you can really never have enough. Some of these essentials are: diapers, wipes, outfits (onesies), baking soda powder as a safe and green diaper deodorizor and burp cloths. You might find it pretty obvious why all of these are important, but stock piling them only benefits you in the long run. No new mother or father wants to spend all day doing laundry to keep up with the demands. So preparing yourself so you have a little bit of slack is the way to go.

Having a new baby can be a very stressful time. That only really stresses the importance of having these important items before your new baby comes home from the hospital. While you could get along without them, you might have an easier time if you had them.

Preparing Ahead Of Time Makes Bringing Baby Home Stress Free

Posted by Shawn | Uncategorized | Thursday 31 December 2009 6:42 pm

It can be stressful and overwhelming trying to make sure you have everything you need to bring home a new baby. If this is your first child deciding what is what can really be confusing but the more items you have before having the baby, the better prepared you will be when bringing her home.

When someone has a baby shower for you, it will provide you with a lot of the items you need for your new baby. Knowing what you are having makes shopping even easier for the baby shower guests. It also helps you when deciding how to decorate the nursery.

When preparing for a baby one of the biggest purchases will be the baby crib. You can purchase a bassinet, cradle or crib for a new baby. The cradles are adorable but your new baby will not sleep in it for a very long period of time. Babies outgrow cradles and bassinets quickly so it is best to purchase a crib that your child will be in for several years.

Choosing the theme for your new little girl can be fun. There are girl baby bedding packages to match any theme you settle on. The choice can be cute and baby girl looking or it can be a set that will grow with your child. Make sure you purchase extra crib sheets as you will want to have an extra for when you need to wash the one from the bedding set.

Getting the babies room ready is fun but it is not all you will need to do to prepare for her to come home. You will also need a well made stroller and a durable car seat. If someone has you a baby shower often guests will combine their gifts into one and make a major purchase for you. You should convey to your host if you already have all of the big purchases to avoid getting something you already have.

While you are pregnant if you are shopping and see baby items such as diapers on sale, purchase them then. You will never have too many diapers or bathing items. You will need a baby bathtub, baby lotions and soaps, wash cloths and baby bath towels. Many of these items can be purchased before you know the sex of your baby. Bathing items, sleepers and onsies are all items that can be purchased ahead of time and can be suitable for baby boys or girls.

Baby showers are fun times to share with loved ones so enjoy the attention. Keep a tally of what you receive so you will have a better idea of additional items you need before bringing the baby home. If you have everything ahead of time and ready for when you come home with your new precious baby, you will be able to be more relaxed and not be so worried about having everything you need.

Understanding Different Crib Sizes

Posted by Shawn | Headline | Sunday 13 December 2009 5:50 pm

When it comes to picking the perfect crip for babbies, any parents will do it carefully to ensure that they are getting one that exactly what their babies need. This even more true for first-time parents.

Although there are a lot of cribs available nowadays, not all of them can offer the right kind of comfort for babies. Moreover, not all of them are safe for babies. That’s why we need to be very carefull and precise when picking out the perfect crib for our babies, including its crib dimensions.

* need some educational reading for your kids?

Dimensions of a Crib

Generally, the size of cribs is thirty by 30×54 inches; give or take. However, depending on the brand and type, you might find some that are a bit bigger in size.

The movable banister normally should reach up to about twenty-six inches only; but it could go lower; again, depending on the make and type of the crib. It’s important that we get a crib with the right dimensions to ensure that our babies will be safe enough to be left alone when in slumber and also to prevent backache to develop on parents from stooping too low when taking the baby from the crib.

Because babies will spend a lot of time in their crib (and especially if we want the crib to last a long time in the event that we will have another baby), crib size, models, and materials used for the crib, are important factors to consider.

Some Tips on Buying Baby Cribs

For first-time parents, we may find it hard to pick the perfect frib for our firstborn baby. Lucky for us, we can find most the needed informations on the internet.

Even though we are currently running low on budget, there are still plenty of excellent cribs that we can buy. We must look at all options carefully to ensure that we will be getting the most efficient crib within our budget.

The first thing we need to check is the updated list of baby cribs that have been found to be faulty and unsafe for our babies. This will be easily found on the internet as well. Once we know what cribs to avoid; we can then begin our search for the right one.

The crib must be made from sturdy material so we’ll know that it can support the full weight of our babies until they have grown too big for it. We also have to check that no toxic materials were used for the manufacturing of the crib to ensure that there will be no health hazards for our babies when we deposit them in the crib.

If the crib has wheels attached to it; we have to make sure that the wheels are safe and that they won’t easily roll off when the baby starts to move inside the crib. Finally, we must ensure that the mattress is suitable for the baby.

It should fit perfectly inside the crib so there won’t be any gaps as this can also be unsafe for babies. Once we have checked every consideration possible, we can simply look to the internet to hook us up with the right kind of crib to get our babies.

Aromatherapy During Pregnancy and Birth

Genetic Testing During Pregnancy

The use of essential oils in aromatherapy has been used for centuries. Frankincense and Myrrh were noted in biblical times as a heavily useful meditation fragrance. It is well known that using essential oils can help alleviate a lot of the aches and pains that come with the day’s stress and anxiety. Although the term aromatherapy is now used, it did not become a common term until the 1920’s.

The main ingredient in aromatherapy is the essential oils. Essential oils are extracted from various plants that contain therapeutic effects. The extract is removed, distilled, and bottled in pure form. They are highly potent oils, and they need to be diluted before proper use as an inhalant or cream.

There are a variety of ways to use the essential oils. Before choosing, you should research and study which essential oil is best for your condition. Test the fragrance to make sure there are no allergies. Place a small amount of diluted solution on your skin to make sure that it will not cause any skin irritations.

Place a few drops in a bath and relax your mind and body. Preparing a warm bath and diluting essential oils in the bath can relieve you from mind fatigue. It is incredibly relaxing which is important for an expectant mother. They can also help relieve the aches and pains from your muscles or the tension from the day’s events. If you prefer to take a shower, place some droplets behind the drain where the oil can have time to dilute. The warm shower water will dilute the oil leaving an incredibly soothing fragrance.

Although many essential oils have individual benefits, there are also good combinations. Certain combinations of key essential oils can provide a more potent way to treat mental issues and emotional imbalances. They can also help you regain memory and get rid of irritability.

Essential oils are also great for massage use. Tiny droplets diluted in massage oils can enhance a massage by relieving tension in muscles and helping soothe sore aches and pains. Use the oils on the temples, forehead, and scalp creates a relaxing effect that removes headaches and leaves your mind refreshed and clear.

Pregnant women are prone to hormonal imbalances that cause stress and anxiety. Aromatherapy can be used to help pregnant women relax and help balance their emotions. Small amounts can be placed in bath water or in a vaporizer to inhale the therapeutic scents. Below is a list of essential oils that will help you relax during your pregnancy.

Bergamot

Baby Gender Prediction: Fact or Fiction?

Posted by Shawn | Pregnancy Planning tips | Saturday 12 December 2009 9:27 am

Many people are wondering about baby gender prediction these days since of course scientific and medical intervention has made so many health related issues much easier to manage and control. While “old wives tales” about baby gender prediction may still abound – calculating the woman’s birth date versus the Chinese lunar calendar or believing that the baby will be the same gender as the more active partner during sex – it’s best to consider some more accurate and more reliable methods with scientific backing.

Some think that the way a woman is carrying her child is a good means of baby gender prediction. Many think that boys tend to sit higher in the belly while girls sit lower. This too is not really accurate as often the way a woman’s belly develops during pregnancy is going to be influenced by her own body shape rather than the child’s gender. A woman that is shorter or that has a shorter torso may find that the baby sits lower in the belly simply because there is not much room for it to develop anywhere else. Taller women may find that the baby sits higher simply because it has that much more room. Of course there are many other factors that influence the size and shape of the belly during pregnancy and this too cannot be considered an accurate baby gender prediction method.

The only seemingly real method of baby gender prediction is based on the fact that the sperm containing the Y chromosomes for boys tend to move faster but die quicker than the sperm containing the X chromosome for girls. However the Y chromosome sperm seem to die quicker than the X chromosome sperm. Many believe that for baby gender prediction you should lie still after intercourse for a boy as this will allow that sperm to reach an egg to fertilize quicker. For a girl you should consider have intercourse a day after ovulation as the Y chromosome sperm may then die off before they reach an egg whereas the longer-lasting X chromosome sperm have a better chance of lasting long enough to reach that egg.

Remember though that there is no guaranteed method of baby gender prediction. All the techniques and tricks in the world cannot and will not control what goes on in a woman’s uterus, so be prepared for a baby of either gender no matter what you try.

Best Tips for Conceiving a Boy

Posted by Shawn | Pregnancy Planning tips | Saturday 12 December 2009 9:26 am

Are you trying to find a way to conceive a boy? There may be some families out there with a house full of boys who may want to sit you down and ask you if you really know what you’re getting into, but of course boys are a wonderful blessing to any family and for any reason. Maybe you already have a boy in the home and want a younger brother for him, or you have girls and want to have the experience of raising a child each gender. So what are some methods for conceiving a boy and do any of them actually work?

There is no method that will leave you absolutely certain that you will have a boy. The sex of a baby cannot be promised even by scientists. But there are some things that perhaps give those “boy sperm” a better chance at fertilizing the egg than their female counterparts.

When thinking about the methods for conceiving a boy remember that the “male sperm” don’t have as much longevity as the “female sperm.”" This means you need to give them a better chance at survival by creating a more optimal environment in the vaginal area. You need to insure that your akaline levels are correct by testing your pH level with a kit that is available at most pharmacies. {Avoid acidic foods such as citrus fruits as too much acid is believed to kill sperm prematurely.} These methods for conceiving a boy require you to keep record of your menstrual cycle as your ph readings and levels depend on it. It’s also believed that better methods for conceiving a boy mean having intercourse closer to when you’re ovulating since this sperm won’t last as long and so needs a better chance at reach an unfertilized egg as quickly as possible. Knowing when you’re ovulating is vital, so make sure you are checking your body with an ovulation kit, as well as keeping track of your menstrual cycle.

Remember that this will only increase your odds of having a boy slightly and what nature and god gives you is what you get and should be happy with. {Conception is something that just cannot be controlled by the parents no matter what they try.}

Calculating Your Baby Due Date Is Easy

Posted by Shawn | Pregnancy Planning tips | Saturday 12 December 2009 9:25 am

It’s not always easy to work out an accurate baby due date, especially if it’s the first time you’ve been pregnant. However it should be possible to work out the date of your baby’s birth to within a week or so of the actual date. Here’s how to do it.

A normal pregnancy will last for an average of 40 weeks. This calculation is always taken from the first day of your last normal period and not from the conception date, because it’s hard to be sure when conception actually happened. As long as your periods are regular, this will tell you when your baby is expected.

There is an easy way to calculate this. Simply add 7 days to the start of your last period and then add 9 months. To make this even easier, there are pregnancy calculators on line which will calculate this for you.

Not not every pregnancy is going to last for exactly 40 weeks. Babies are often born prematurely (less than 37 weeks) or late (after 42 weeks). If your periods are very irregular, calculating a baby due date is a lot harder. There is a test called a pregnancy ultrasound which can help.

If you are going to have a pregnancy ultrasound to find out your due date, it need to be done between 6 and 12 weeks to be accurate. This is a non invasive procedure using sound waves to produce a picture of the growing baby. An ultrasound operator can calculate the baby’s gestational age by measuring certain body parts, for example the circumference of the baby’s head.

A pregnancy ultrasound can also determine any abnormalities such as ectopic pregnancy, where the fetus has lodged in the fallopian tubes, or placenta praevia where the placenta obscures the neck of the womb. Ultrasounds can also find potential health problems with the baby.

Is there a problem when your baby is premature

The chances are much better today for a preterm birth (before 37 weeks). Paediatric care has come a long way in the last 10 years. Babies born between 34 and 37 weeks have an almost 100% survival rate.

Having said this, it’s still best if your baby can go full term. Premature infants can be exposed to greater infection risk and respiratory issues. How can you lessen the chances of a preemie baby?

Pregnancy and alcohol don’t mix so please don’t drink alcohol or smoke while pregnant. Make sure your food intake is nutritious and sufficient to maintain both you and your baby. Avoid getting into stressful situations and last but not least, ensure you get a prenatal checkup frequently to make sure your pregnancy is progressing normally.

So working out your baby due date let’s you be organized for the birth of your baby both physically and emotionally. If you’re experiencing difficulty in calculating when your baby is due, your obstetrician is sure to be able to help.
